On Monday 26th June 130 Year 5 students from 10 feeder Primary Schools attended the STEM Challenge Day at Ravens Wood.
Students were involved in cross curricular activities which were planned, resourced and delivered by the Science, Design Technology, Mathematics and Computer Science departments.
Students learnt programming skills, engineering principles, construction techniques and how to conduct a scientific experiment. The day culminated in a bridge building challenge where students had to apply their learning from all activities to compete against each other in the design and manufacture of a model bridge. Prizes were awarded for strength, design, teamwork, budgeting and innovation.
The event was made an even greater success with the help and leadership of the year 7 STEM ambassadors who were invaluable throughout. They represented the 3Ls of Ravens Wood perfectly and were a credit to year 7.
A huge thank goes to all staff involved in the day, particularly Mr Buntain, Mr White, Mr Arnold, Mr Ely and Mr Matthews for their contributions before, during and after the event.
Quotes from the year 5 students:
"The best day at school since reception!"
"You must come to Ravens Wood"
"The best day ever"
Twelve Ravens Wood students from year 8 and 9 entered the Bromley Science and Technology Competition at The University of Greenwich on the 14th June. 72 students from 6 Bromley schools entered the competition. The students were paired and split into mixed school teams of four.
