STEM Success At National Science and Technology Challenge Final

A few days back, following the events at Greenwich university, our two winners went on to the finals at Queen Mary's University. There, they were introduced to a challenge, program a robot to use loops to navigate a maze and present a presentation about what they had learned whilst they were there. After working hard for a few hours, they managed to get a code to complete the majority of the maze. However, they encountered the main challenge.

Throughout the maze, the robot was required to turn right once hitting a black line and turn left when detecting an obstacle ahead. But, at this one corner they encountered something which would stop them in their tracks. Turning left at a black line. Yes, it sounds easy but, forcing it to turn left at any of the other black lines would stop them from getting any further.

After repeatedly searching through the code to uncover any tricks which could help them, Steven A found the key to their success. Controlling how many times the loop's repeat. Once imbedding the code, they went over to the maze and tried it out. It worked. This team of students were one of the only ones who completed the maze. And when the time came to see who won the entire challenge, everyone found out that... We Won!!
